Background: Seizures are the most important and common symptom of a serious neurological disorder in neonates. The most common cause of neonatal seizures is hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.
Materials and Methods: In this study, all neonates aged 1 to 28 days who experienced neonatal convulsions upon arrival or during hospitalization at Shahid Rahimi Hospital in Khorramabad in 1401 were included. Based on the history recorded in the files, the causes of seizures were investigated.
Results: Patients were categorized into seven groups based on the seizure-related factors, including asphyxia (28.3%), intracranial infections (17.4%), electrolyte disorders (6.5%), congenital metabolic diseases (13%), maternal addiction (2.2%), cranial hemorrhage (8.7%), and no specified cause (23.9%).
Conclusion: In the present study, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy was the most common factor associated with seizures, followed by brain infections. There was a significant relationship between the prevalence of seizures and the proportion of parents.
