Background : To resistant of Enterococcus faecalis to a range of antibiotics, has become one of the concerns of sanitation in most communities and has made many researchers raise identify and  using of novel antibacterial compounds against E. faecalis as one of important strategies to control this pathogen. The present study, we assessed the antibacterial effect of thirty new thiazole, thiazolidine, imidazole, tetrahydropyrimidine oxazolidine and thiazepine derivatives against E. faecalis

Materials and Methods: After derivatives were dissolved in DMSO, to evaluate the antibacterial effect, the disk diffusion method was applied to measure the growth inhibition zone diameter and broth micro dilution was performed to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and then minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) for all of derivatives compared with gentamicin and penicillin.

Results: Results showed of thirty derivatives tested, only imidazole derivative 4 had inhibitory effect on E. faecalis with growth inhibition zone diameter 10.2, MIC 2048 and MBC 4096 µg/ml. In the antibiogram test, penicillin had the most susceptibility on E. faecalis.

Conclusion: In this study, the antibacterial effect of imidazolidine derivative was showed on standard strain of E. faecalis and evaluating the effects of these compounds on E. faecalis treatment-resistant strains were necessary in future works.
