Abstract

Background: N-terminal proBNP (NTproBNP) is widely used as a diagnostic biomarker and for the risk stratification of patients with heart failure (HF). Its role in the evaluation of patients with hypertension is not completely clear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of 12 weeks of aerobic exercise on NT-pro BNP in women with hypertension.
Materials and Methods: Thirty-five middle-aged women with hypertension were randomly divided into two groups of the aerobic training and the control. The aerobic exercise group completed 12 weeks of exercise, 3 sessions per weak, with 35-60% of the maximum heart rate. Serum NT-proBNP marker was determined by Elecsys method, and 5 ml of blood was collected from brachial veins.
Results: The results demonstrated that 12 weeks of aerobic training had a positive and significant effect on NT-pro BNP concentration in patients with hypertension (p <0.05)
Conclusion: Overall, it seems that 12 weeks of aerobic exercise has been beneficial in patients with hypertension, and has improved myocardial function. However, this issue requires further research.

Abstract

Background: Vascular endothelial cells play an important role in regulating vascular activity by producing vascular active substances such as endothelin-1 and nitric oxide. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of eight weeks of water resistance training with dark chocolate consumption on plasma levels of endothelin-1, nitric oxide and quality of life in elderly women.
Materials and Methods:  In this semi-experimental study, 37 elderly women (mean ± standard deviation; age, 65.6 ± 3.1 years; weight 75.71 ± 7.7 kg) were purposefully divided into four complementary groups. Supplementation and exercise, exercise and control were included. The training protocol was performed for eight weeks of water resistance training. Supplementation of 30 grams of 83% dark chocolate daily was used for 8 weeks. Quality of life index was measured by SF-36 evaluation and plasma endolin-1 levels by ELISA and serum nitrite levels as the main metabolite of NO. One-way analysis of variance and Bonferroni’s post hoc test were used for statistical analysis.
Results: The results showed that the mean quality of life index in the water resistance training group was significantly higher than the control group in elderly women (p = 0.036). Also, the mean NO levels in the combined group were significantly higher than the control group (p = 0.001). But the mean levels of endothelin-1 in the combined group were significantly lower than the control group (p = 0.012).
Conclusion: Based on the present results, it can be concluded that resistance training in water along with consumption of dark chocolate may reduce endothelin-1 levels and increase NO levels to improve endothelial function and increase quality of life in elderly women.

Abstract

Background: Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers and the first leading cause of cancer death (25.5%) among women across the world. Oxidative stress and overproduction of free radicals are among the most important reasons for the progression of cancers. This study aimed to investigate the effect of eight weeks of aerobic exercise with pomegranate juice on Serum microRNAs levels related to the oxidant/antioxidant system of women recovering from breast cancer.
Materials and Methods: In this semi-experimental study, 40 women recovering from breast cancer with a mean age of 42.45±1.95 were randomly assigned into four equal groups (n=10), including control, pomegranate juice, aerobic exercise, and aerobic-pomegranate. The aerobic and aerobic-pomegranate groups performed eight 60-90-min sessions of exercises three times a week with an intensity of 50% to 70% of the target heart rate. The pomegranate juice group received 100 cc of juice before each training session. Blood samples were collected 48 h before and after the intervention. Oncogenic microRNAs, such as miR-21 and miR-155, were assayed by RT-PCR. The obtained data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA, ANCOVA, and Bonferroni post hoc test at a significance level of P≤0/05.
Results: In total, eight weeks of aerobic exercise with the consumption of pomegranate juice caused a significant decrease in miR-21 (P=0.001) and miR-155 (P=0.001) levels in women recovering from breast cancer, compared to the control group.
Conclusion: Aerobic exercise and consumption of pomegranate juice simultaneously reduced oncogene microRNAs, such as miR-21 and miR-155, in women recovering from breast cancer.
