Background and Aim: Regarding the role of psychological factors and lifestyle
 in the etiology of diseases
The aim of this study was to investigate and compare the personality type D, social support and cognitive flexibility in cardiac and normal patients in Khorramabad city.
Methods: This study is a case-retrospective study. Which compares D-type personality, social support, and cognitive flexibility to heart and normal patients. The statistical population included all patients with coronary heart disease referred to cardiovascular clinics in Khorramabad city, in which 64 patients volunteered to participate in the study. Also, 64 normal people matched them in terms of age and gender. To measure the variables, the personality type D questionnaire, Philips social support questionnaire (1986), and Dennis and Venderle Cognitive Flexibility Questionnaire were used. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA).
Results: The results of the study showed that there is a significant difference between cardiac patients and normal people in terms of personality type D, social support and cognitive flexibility. The heart disease group has lower social support and lower cognitive flexibility and the average score of D-type personality is higher.
Conclusion: According to the results of the research, personality type D, social support and cognitive flexibility can be considered as important variables that influence the development or prevention of heart disease
