Background : The main purpose of this study was to describe the frequency of causes of seizure in outpatients with seizure who referred to neurology clinic in Khorramabad city. Materials and Methods: This study was carried out in Khorramabad city and the files of referred patients were studied during 15 months, from 21 st March 2011 to 20 June 2012. Among the variables that have been studied, age and sex prevalence of seizure, presence of family history, disorder in level of calcium, sodium and sugar blood in the history of cerebral infection, trauma and tumor were higly significant. Results: Among 221 patients who were studied, 54% were male and 46% were female, the most common age group was 10-19 years, which consisted of 34% of total patients. 7.7% of the patients had positive family history, 45% of the patients had disorder in calcium level of blood, 90% of them patient had disorder in blood sugar level, no patients had disorder in sodium level of blood, 90% of the cases had the history of cerebral infection, 7.7% of the patients had the history of trauma, 75.6% of patients had idiopathic epilepsy, 45% of the patients had the history of tumor, and the cause of seizure in 1.35% of the cases had not been mentioned in their file. Conclusion: Although in most cases seizure is a benign disorder, the frequency of those groups of seizures which need to investigation, diagnosis and special treatment planning, is so great that in each case the full description, detail examination and para clinical assessment should be performed because the diagnostic assessment influences the treatment decisions, family counseling, the need to be followed, and particular follow-up of these patients.
