Background: One of the most important occupational tensions that dentists may face in their profession is patient complaints. Today, despite the efforts of all medical staff and advanced technologies, the level of dissatisfaction and complaints of patients has increased. The purpose of this study was to investigate the frequency and causes of dental complaints in Khorramabad, Iran, in two medical and forensic organizations.
Materials and Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, data were collected by the census method and by examining 178 dental complaint files in the mentioned organizations in 2018-2022, and checklists were completed with the help of the relevant expert. Then, the data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 25).
Results: Out of 185 reviewed complaints that were registered in 178 files, 42 (22.7%) dentists who were sued were female. The verdicts issued in 43 (23.2%) complaint cases resulted in acquittal, whereas 142 (76.8%) cases resulted in the filing of a complaint. Most of the complaints were related to receiving treatment in a private office (112; 61% of all cases). Among the 185 cases, 110 (59.5%) complaints were made by women, while 75 (40.5%) were made by men.
Conclusion: Given that most complaints were due to the incompetence of dentists, it is expected that complaints against dentists will decrease by adhering to scientific principles and standards in providing treatment and proper interaction between dentists and patients.
